Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (Movie)

I am a huge fan of this franchise or series or whatever. I love it and I see these people as more my friends than fictional characters. I am a ware that makes me a creep, but I can live with that. These movies are very important to me and I know that sounds strange, but they are, because I want people to be able to get the same joy that I get out of these characters.

I went into this movie very invested in its being good and I came out realizing that is was a very hard movie to make. A lot of difficult things happen in the sixth installment of Harry Potter and almost all of the plot points are related to the more depressing parts of the story. In the book there is much more happiness and frivolity, but in order to shorten it down into a movie, a lot of that had to be taken out. I think that is the really stem of all the problems that arise with the making of Harry Potter movies. In the books, J.K. Rowling is able to delve into each character's story and you get to know everyone, but in the movies in most cases they just have the most popular characters basically do a walk-through. I understand that this is the best that they can do, because there is not enough time, but I think it jobs the audience of the smaller characters.

Overall, I thought that they did a very good job on this film, but with **Spoiler Alert** Dumbledore's death and Snape's betrayal, **Spoiler Alert** I was glad that I had read the last book. Otherwise, I would have walked out of that theater livid.I think they did a pretty good job getting the message and the main events of this installment onto the screen. I thought the scene with Ron and love potion was particularly funny and I really felt the emotion when Hermione was upset about Ron. The only real problems I had were the amount of silent spell casting and the fact that they completely and totally changed THE kiss, it was much better in the book. But I would very much like to compliment the cast and crew on a job well done.

One more thing, I think that everyone should at least attempt to read these books, because at the very least, it will enrich your movie going experience.

Rachel, Thank you for a most thoughtful and insightful review of this movie! It makes me want to go see it even tho I am only a very casual kind of fan. It's wonderful to hear you developing your analytic side. Keep up the good work!
